HEALTHY PLACES, HEALTHY PEOPLE
We know that resources that enhance quality of life -- such as public safety, greenspace, availability of healthy foods, and access to local health services -- can have a significant influence on population health outcomes. Improving the conditions in which we live, learn, work, and play and the quality of our relationships can create a healthier population, society, and workforce.
INITIATIVES
Trauma Informed Curriculum
In collaboration with NKCDC, we engaged in a 3-year participatory, co-design process with Kensington residents. Through workshops and meetings, residents offered input and feedback to shape the curriculum to best suit the needs of the neighborhood. Out of that process, Michael O’Bryan and Rebecca Fabiano, created a curriculum that educates participants on trauma and its effects, and offers tools to build resilience and increase emotional intelligence.
We CAN! Change & Action Now
The We CAN community-based crime reduction collaborative provides an opportunity to bring together the collective resources and capacity of its partner organizations: Impact, NKCDC, and HACE.
CPTED (Crime Prevention through Environmental Design)
CPTED is a commonly-used term for designing the built environment to contribute to a sense of safety. We have several CPTED projects:
Swanson Street Mural
Improved street lights
Gloria’s butterfly garden
Fencing off vacant lots
Neighborhood Cleanups
